The Ants Go Marching
Step 1 - Rhymes
Step 2 - Pictures
Step 3 - Full
This is a poem that uses lots of repetions. It's about ants trying to escape the rain. They are not very disciplined, however, and they stop, one by one, to do various things on the way. Usually their activities rhyme with numbers. The exercise is a fill gap activity - you fill missing words by following the pattern. It's fairly long and we set plenty of time to finish it - 40 min. When students did the exercise for the second and third time, however, they did it very fast, as they understood the poem pattern and remembered the words. For words that are not a part of a pattern, there are pictures. As with all Hot Potatoes, the exercise will open in a new window:
The Ants Go MarchingThere are two exercises to help learning the words before the main activity. The first one helps with words that rhyme with numbers (one - thumb, two - shoe). It's a matching activity, time limit is 5 minutes.
Help 1 - RhymesThe second one helps with pictures used in the main exercise. Time limit for this one is 10 minutes.
